Services for Utilities

Since 1960, HVM has served electrical utilities of all sizes.  We test and maintain substation and power plant equipment to improve reliability and lengthen equipment life.

We provide 24 hour emergency service and work closely with you to:

  • Troubleshoot complex engineering problems
  • Manage substation maintenance
  • Provide specialized services for power plants
  • Perform energy audits and energy management programs
  • Provide qualified personnel to supplement your team for short or long term assignments

Additional services HVM provides include:

Optimizing Reliability while Minimizing Cost
Many utilities do not have the trained personnel, nor the test equipment available to perform proper periodic inspection and testing of energized substations. HVM works on a contract, as needed or emergency basis. You choose how and when you need us. Our technicians provide cost effective, safe and reliable service for both utilities and their customers.

Enerscan: Testing while Equipment is Energized
HVM
’s Enerscan Package of Services is ideal for smaller utilities because it is an economical method of ensuring that small incipient problems do not develop into large catastrophic failures. Enerscan services include:

  • Visual inspection for damage and other abnormal conditions

  • Infrared inspection to detect abnormal thermal rises

  • Corona detection to identify sources of excessive RF radiation

  • Recording transformer oil levels, oil and winding temperatures, nitrogen gas pressure and oil levels in other equipment

  • Testing transformer oil samples and nitrogen gas blankets

  • Engineering reports that include all test results and recommendations to correct deficiencies

Reliable Work performed by Highly Trained HVM Technicians
Our test technicians are fully certified by NETA, the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (www.netaworld.org). They attend classes at the HVM Technical Training Center where they share experience with technicians from other divisions and are briefed on the latest testing techniques and instruments. An experienced specialist leads each HVM team and an electrical engineer reviews all test data.

Specialized Engineering Studies and Analysis
Given the trend toward deregulation, power quality is a critical issue for utilities. HVM engineers and technicians provide specialized studies of electrical systems that can identify and eliminate voltage sags, frequency variations, and momentary outages. These specialized studies include:

  • Power Quality Analysis and Mitigation

  • Voltage Regulation

  • Power Factor Correction

  • Load Analysis

  • Harmonic Analysis

  • Coordination and Short Circuit Studies

State of the Art Equipment and Technology
HVM
recently invested over $2 million in state of the art computerized test equipment. This test equipment dramatically improves the reliability of test data and enables more accurate predictive decisions based on trending test values over time. Our field engineers routinely use laptop computers and high-speed modems to share data and to solve complex engineering problems on the spot.
