Safety Programs

E
mployee safety is critical to HVM. We do everything in our power to equip our field engineers and technicians with the latest safety equipment and training.

We place great importance on accident prevention. We recognize that employees share the responsibility for their own safety, the safety of other employees, and the general public. We require employees to keep up to date with safety training, bring questions to their supervisors and report any unsafe conditions they encounter. The degree of safety and the results accomplished are directly proportional to the effort expended to control conditions, practices and human actions that lead to accidents. HVM provides the following tools to all field employees:

  • Safety Manual
Field engineers and technicians are provided a complete safety manual and time to learn and review safety procedures. The manual is theirs to keep throughout their employment with HVM. As revisions to the manual are written, all field employees are given replacement pages and required to keep their Safety Manual up to date.
  • Training and Retraining
Within the first three months of employment, all HVM field employees receive on the job safety training. Many topics are covered and many are reviewed personally by supervisors. In addition, safety training is supplemented by video taped and hands on training sessions.  If an employee is observed not following proper safety procedures, he or she will be given additional training on the correct procedures.
  • Safety Meetings
HVM field employees regularly attend shop safety meetings to discuss recent jobs, hazardous conditions and conditions encountered at customer's facilities. Tail-gate safety meetings are also required prior to new assignments. HVM employees along with temporary workers and subcontractors attend.
  • Safety Equipment
HVM provides all personal protective equipment (PPE) for all field employees. As a minimum, this includes Class 0 and Class 2 electrical gloves, hard hat, safety glasses with side shields, goggles, hearing protection, NOMEX switching jacket or jump suit and breathing comfort masks. We require employees to regularly inspect this equipment prior to use. Defective items shall be tagged and turned in for repair or replacement.
  • Grounds and Tools
HVM also provides all grounding equipment and insulated hot sticks and insulated tools required for safe work practices. We require employees to regularly inspect this equipment prior to use. Defective items shall be tagged and turned in for repair or replacement.

HVM has safety committees and safety officers at both the corporate and divisional levels. We maintain safety records on each and every field employee and review safety procedures regularly to determine the necessity for revision. We maintain a strict policy protecting employees from reprimand for refusing to perform work if they have reason to believe it is unsafe.
